Several years ago, Horton Automatics, located in Corpus Christi, Texas, was experiencing frequent shortages of parts required for several lines of their commercial doors. This resulted in delays in manufacturing their products and extremely high freight bills because these parts needed to be shipped "red." Mark Stimac, owner of Ideal Parts, went to meet with Margaret Katigbak, purchasing manager at Horton, to find a solution to this escalating problem.

Together, they developed a KanBan inventory management system for all the parts Ideal manufactured for Horton. This system, first developed in Japan, analyzes the actual usage of our client's products to determine the specific type of shipment needed. The system included stocking an extra shipment of parts by Ideal.

Horton benefited from this system because they can order today and we'll ship it to them tomorrow. This results in no "stock outs", no "red" shipments, and no manufacturing delays.

Today, Horton has instituted KanBan inventory with all of its major vendors. Margaret Katigabak states, "Horton Automatics has implemented demand flow manufacturing and KanBan inventory control is essential to this process. It is the key to ensuring an uninterrupted supply of materials and services."
